  • Dome light ‘Texture resolution’ and ‘Tex Adaptive’

If ‘Tex Adaptive’ is on, is there a need to adjust the ‘Texture Resolution’?
As in, does the resolution adaptively change to where needed, if ‘Tex Adaptive’ is on?

    I have a 10K HDR and I'm rendering at 9x6K.

The rendered part of the image is 3.5x2K (the rest being a photographic backplate).

If the resolution isn't adaptivly changing, what would be the best way to determine the HDR resolution to use?

    Cheers

The resolution isn't adaptively changing, "tex adaptive" adaptively changes the number of samples vray takes from a portion of interest of that texture. You can manually change the resolution, however.
Usually, vray scales the texture down to speed up calculations, but it never goes lower than 2K and it's only for sampling it. Ideally, you would just use the defaults. You can change the tex resolution in the dome light parameters and see if it stops making a difference below/above certain value, where this would be more or less dependent on the texture you're using and on the scene itself.

Here's the descriptions from our documentation:

      Cool, cheers.

I'll test up to 10K, but good to know that VRay will scale down this res to speed things up.
